On Expressing God — John 17:15 [a practical, biblical study of scripture]

Excerpt from Devotional Sessions | Practical Spirituality

I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. (John 17:15, prompted from Devotional Sessions – Phil Rice).

Take some time to quiet your mind and your thoughts. Go for a walk or just find some headspace. Read over this passage as many times as it takes to sink in. Jesus has called us to be in the world. And, he will keep me safe from evil.

Holy Spirit, show me what it means for me to be in the world — not tomorrow, but right now. Make me aware of my present circumstances, the small little piece of the world you have brought me into. And Holy Spirit, as I am light in my world, keep me from the evil one.

Write down any thoughts, scripture, or pictures that come to mind and thank God for sharing this experience with you.

My personal engagement with this session

This is such a powerful and meaningful passage of scripture for me. He has called me, not to place myself out of the world. Rather, he has called me to real people and real places that align with my rhythms of life. He has called me into the world and he has paired this call with the protection of the father.

Thank you Lord that you have called us as light in our world and that you will stand with us in that place.
