On Expressing God — Matthew 5:13 [a practical, devotional study of scripture]

Excerpt from Devotional Sessions | Practical Spirituality

You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men (Matthew 5:13, prompted from Devotional Sessions – Phil Rice).

We are called to be salt of the earth. Take a moment away from distraction and ask God what it looks like to be salt on the earth. Lord, what does it look like to bring flavor to my environment? What does it look like to bring richness to those around me? Spend some time inviting Holy Spirit to flow though you in bringing the richness of his presence and kingdom into your world.

My engagement with this session

This is an important reality. Jesus is calling me, his disciple, to be salt [flavor, richness] in my environment. For me, the work isn’t in doing more stuff, but it’s in being aware of where I am and being in tune with how the Lord wants to experience me and how I am to experience him in the moment. The overflow of this connection is salt [in relating to those around me] — deep relational connection with the creator in everyday life.
